Update: Student Belongings, SJSD Materials, Summer School & More
(May 7, 2020) As we work to provide continued support to all families during the extended school closure, we wanted to share an update on several items. The St. Joseph School District has developed plans for families to collect student belongings and return district-owned devices and materials. Additionally, please see the updates below regarding nutrition services balances, virtual summer school, and student email.
Picking Up Student Belongings and Returning Materials
SJSD families are asked to pick up their student’s belongings during the week of May 11, 2020 at their student’s school. Please follow the schedules listed below.
If you have children with different last names, use one of the student's last names to determine a time to pick up and return items for all children in your home. In order for each school to be prepared for you, please arrive during your scheduled time. If none of these times listed work for you, please email your child’s principal to request a time on Thursday, May 14th or Friday, May 15th. Items not picked up by May 30th will be donated. For students not planning to return to the SJSD next school year, please return Chromebooks and chargers, iPads and chargers, and district-provided hotspots. Other items like school owned instruments, library books and textbooks should also be turned in at this time as well.
Printed Learning Packets for Distribution
The final elementary mathematics packet will be available at each elementary school during the week of May 11th to go home with student belongings.
Nutrition Services Balances
Any money that remains on students’ accounts will roll over to next year. If your student is a senior, the remaining balance can be moved to a sibling’s account in the district or you can request a refund. Please contact Brian Tarr, coordinator of nutrition services, for the reimbursement form. If your student has a negative balance that you would like to take care of, payments can be made online through MyPaymentsPlus or you can mail a check to SJSD Nutrition Services at 1000 S. 9th Street, St. Joseph, Mo 64503.
SJSD Virtual Summer School
Unfortunately, the St. Joseph School District will not be offering the traditional summer school through Catapult Learning this year. However, in an effort to provide educational opportunities for students during this time, we are considering a virtual summer school option for students who will be in grades 1st through 12th in the upcoming school year.
- If you haven’t done so already, please follow this link to take our summer school survey to help us gauge interest in the virtual summer school option.
- Virtual credit recovery programs and other coursework will also be available for the high school level.
Changes Coming to Student Email This Summer
In early July, the SJSD will be moving student email from Gmail to Outlook. This will not affect students’ access to Google Drive, Sheets, Slides, or other Google products currently available to students. When the district moves student email to the Outlook domain, students’ Gmail accounts will no longer function.
- If students have emails, attachments, etc., in their Gmail accounts that they wish to retain, they need to save those in their Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or other location prior to the change. More information will follow regarding new student email addresses. For now, however, students should take time to save anything they want to retain from their Gmail account.
As always, thank you for your continued support and patience.
