School Closure Details for Families & FAQ

The St. Joseph School District will remain closed through April 24, 2020 in response to continued efforts to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus. The decision aligns with the social distancing recommendations from the CDC and public health officials. The District has plans in place to allow essential district employees to continue the important work they are doing to feed students and provide academic opportunities. Read the full announcement here. Please continue to monitor district communications for additional information on the plan to provide support to all students during this extended closure. The latest changes include:


  • Students will participate in learning from home for the school days between March 23 and April 24. Printed resources were sent home with students before Spring Break. Additional learning resources are available at the links below.
  • The updated learning guides for students in grades K-8 include activities that do not require internet access. If your child has internet access, please continue to utilize the resources provided online by the district and your child’s teacher.

  • If you need the new printed learning activities for your student, the materials will be available for pickup during the meal distribution on Wednesday, April 8  from 8-10:30 a.m. at the following locations: Benton High School, Central High School, Lafayette High School, Carden Park Elementary School and Coleman Elementary School

  • We realize that helping your children with their learning may be challenging. We have developed a resource with some tips and some free resources you to use during this time of remote learning.
  • Students with IEPs should have received communication from a teacher regarding accommodations during remote learning.


  • All SJSD families throughout the district will have access to free breakfast and lunch for students during the school closure. Numerous individuals have come together in a hurry to develop a plan to provide this much-needed service. View the updated flyer here.
  • Should a family have issues with illness or mobility, please contact our district office at 816-671-4000.
  • The meal distribution for Wednesday, April 8, will include meals for the rest of the week. Due to Good Friday, there will not be a meal distribution on Friday, April 10. The meal distribution will resume the Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule starting April 13.
