SJSD Director of Elementary Education Announces Retirement
(March 5, 2020) The St. Joseph School District’s Director of Elementary Education, Dr. Michele Norman, has announced she will retire at the end of the school year.
Norman has been with the St. Joseph School District since 2016. She retires with 30 years’ experience as an educator in Missouri.
During her career, Norman served school families as a teacher, elementary school principal, middle school principal and a district administrator. She has been honored as an Elementary Principal of the Year and a Counselor Advocate of the Year.
Norman has played a key role in the SJSD’s establishment of a multi-tiered system of supports for behavior and the implementation of behavioral interventionists to support teachers and students. She recently secured the district’s participation in the US Department of Education’s research study which will provide 14 teacher leaders in the district at no district expense next year to support classroom teachers.
Dr. Norman will remain in her role with the SJSD until the end of June. The district will post the position for director of elementary education soon.
