Important Changes to Public Recycling at SJSD Schools
The rising cost of recycling has led to changes at the St. Joseph School District. The District is in the process of removing recycling dumpsters from school property.
“This change is unfortunate because the recycling bins provided a service to the community,” said Chris Silcott, Director of Operations.
The bins raised several thousand dollars per year for the district, depending on the amount of recyclables collected. However, with changes to the resale value of recyclables, trash providers are now charging the district to haul away the items. For the St. Joseph School District, the difference would add up to nearly $40,000 per year.
“We appreciate the value of recycling and apologize that we are no longer able to continue this service,” said Silcott.
All dumpsters will be removed from district property by the end of July 2019.
