(February 6, 2019) -- The connections made over breakfast at Edison Elementary School could last a lifetime for a group of 6th grade boys.
They are part of a new breakfast program that launched this week with mentors from the St. Joseph Police Department and Missouri Western State University.
Officers and athletes have committed to meeting with the group of boys once a week through the end of the school year.
The United Way of St. Joseph worked with Edison's family involvement coordinator to organize the program.
The opportunity provides a chance for the students to make connections with some strong role models in the community.
The program is one of several outreach efforts underway at Edison and throughout the SJSD to engage families and provide support to all students.
