District Recess Weather Watch Protocol

 

The following is adapted from the Missouri Department of Health Child Care Weather Watch and may be viewed at health.mo.gov/safety/childcare/pdf/weatherwatch.pdf.

These are guidelines only and are not meant to be a substitute for professional judgment.

WINTER (Temperature with wind-chill)
32 – 90 degrees – probably comfortable for outdoor play
20 – 32 degrees – use caution, may be necessary to reduce time outside
Below 20 degrees – children should not go outside

SUMMER (Temperature includes heat index)
32 – 90 degrees – comfortable for outdoor play
90 – 100 degrees – use caution may be necessary to reduce time outside
100 degrees or above – children should not go outside

Use caution – Children should be clothed appropriately and have access to fluids during warmer weather. Closely observe children for becoming over-heated or too cold.
