Mask Policy Update GraphicThe St. Joseph Board of Education voted 6-1 in a Special Board meeting on Sept. 13, to continue to require masks indoors in the St. Joseph School District schools and buildings regardless of vaccination status. The Board decided to continue the mask mandate until Buchanan County’s positivity rate falls below 5 percent for 14 consecutive days.

In addition, the Board agreed to establish an ad-hoc committee that will devise specific criteria that will determine when a mask policy should be re-instated if the number returns above the 5 percent positivity rate.

For now, anyone entering SJSD buildings will be required to wear a mask. Masks will also be required on school buses, which is part of the CDC guidance that face coverings are required when using public transportation. Masks will not be required when students are participating in outdoor activities.

The mandated mask policy had been in place since the first day of school, August 23. The Board of Education will review the mask policy at upcoming monthly and special board meetings.

The St. Joseph School District will continue to keep the health and safety of its students and staff as its top priority and will continue to follow its COVID-19 safety protocols.
