Board Votes to Extend Thanksgiving Holiday GraphicSt. Joseph School District students and staff will receive two extra days of vacation Thanksgiving week this year.

The Board of Education held a special meeting on November 10 and voted 6 - 1 to extend Thanksgiving break. Classes will be canceled on Monday, November 22, and Tuesday, November 23. The district was already scheduled to be closed November 24-26.

Board president Tami Pasley said this is a way to show appreciation to staff that has faced challenging times during the ongoing pandemic. "During the past 18 months our teachers and staff have been working extremely hard," said Tami Pasley, SJSD Board President. "The two days of vacation will be a mental health and wellness time for our students and staff that is well-deserved."

Last month, the Board voted to add two-hour early outs on November 12 and 23 and December 10, to give teachers additional planning time and an opportunity to collaborate with their peers. The early outs on November 12 and December 10 will remain intact.

The school calendar will not be impacted because of the Board’s decision. The district will still meet state requirements, as it had more hours built in than required.

However, the Board’s decision will impact the November monthly Board meeting. The meeting scheduled for Monday, November 22, will be moved to Monday, November 29 at 5:30 pm in the Board Room at 925 Felix Street.
