The St. Joseph Board of Education elected a new president and vice-president; two new board members were sworn-in and the Board will soon begin the process to appoint a new member to fill a vacancy at its reorganization meeting on Monday, April 18.
Isaura Garcia and Kim Miller, the top vote getters in the April 5 election, were sworn into office by Division 4 Circuit Court Judge, the Honorable Daniel Kellogg.
During the reorganization meeting, the Board voted unanimously to elect David Foster, president and LaTonya Williams, vice president. “The president of the board has to consider everyone while keeping student success at the forefront,” said Foster. I would love to see the number of volunteers increase and get back to basic principles that create growth, camaraderie, and success. I’m very enthusiastic about our team, our students, and the future of our district. We have a fresh canvas to paint a new picture.”
LaTonya Williams said, “I do not take lightly serving in a leadership position on the Board of Education. “I am excited about this new role and I am optimistic about the future of our school district.”
Lori Witham, who has served on the board since 2020, has submitted her resignation. Witham will no longer reside in St. Joseph and will not meet the residency requirements to hold the position. The Board will accept Witham’s resignation at its April 27th Board meeting and will soon begin the process of filling the seat through a process where community residents apply and are interviewed and selected by the Board to serve out the remaining one-year term. Two board seats will be open in April 2023.
The Board thanked two out-going board members – Board President Tami Pasley and Vice President Bryan Green for their dedication and commitment to the SJSD the past six years. Both decided not to run again after serving two terms.
