(Oct. 27, 2020) – A snapshot of enrollment numbers in the St. Joseph School district for the 2020-21 school year show a decrease of 217 students.  As of September 30, 2020, according to the district’s annual tally, 10,472 students were enrolled in Kindergarten through grade 12. That is down from 10,689 in the 2019-2020 school year.

The number is part of the September count that is used to determine state funding and staffing. Each school district in the state counts its students twice a year and reports the findings to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The count, which took place September 30, shows how many students are enrolled in schools during the allotted days.

The district’s three high schools have students gained students; however, the loss was most significant at the elementary level. The loss of students will have an impact on the district’s 2020-21 budget.

The past two years, the district had a loss of more than 400 students.
