Adult Education and Literacy
The mission of Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) is to provide instruction to help students refresh the basic academic skills necessary for success in life skills, improvement of English as a Second Language, success on the HiSet exams, preparation for post-secondary training or education and success in employment. St. Joseph Adult Education and Literacy program, in coordination with local school districts and agencies, provides Adult Education Centers throughout Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton, DeKalb and Grundy counties. The learning centers provide free, accessible, high-quality education to local residents.
Day and evening classes are available. Classes are FREE and the courses are tailored to meet each individual's unique needs. Students are individually assessed and learning plans are created. Students must be a resident of Missouri, at least 17 years of age, and not enrolled in a secondary school. Students work at their own pace in small groups or individually with materials suited to their specific abilities. Courses can prepare students to take the High School Equivalency(HSE) test.
