Benefits

Open Enrollment is held each Spring, giving employees the opportunity to make changes to their benefit elections. Any updates made during this period will take effect on July 1 of the following year.

Changes outside of Open Enrollment are not permitted unless an employee experiences a qualifying life event. Qualifying life events include situations such as:

• Marriage or divorce
• Birth or adoption of a child
• Loss or gain of other coverage
• Death of a dependent

Employees must notify HR promptly if a qualifying life event occurs. To make benefit changes documentation must be provided supporting the qualifying life event. Please note there is only a 30-day waiting period from the date that a life event occurs to make any benefit changes.

Full-time employees become eligible for benefits beginning on the first day of the month following their hire date. For example, an employee hired on June 13 would have benefits effective July 1.

New hires receive an enrollment invitation via their work email, which allows them to select from benefit options including

• Medical
• Dental
• Vision
• Hearing
• Life insurance
• And additional voluntary benefits

SJSD also provides free Basic Life Insurance on all full-time employees of $50,000 and all SJSD Administrators receive free Basic Life Insurance of $100,000.

Employees can access the Benefits Portal at any time to manage their benefits. Within the portal, they can review available options, access their 1095-C form, update or review beneficiaries, and more.

Employees are provided with required annual notices related to their health benefits. These include, but are not limited to:

• CHIP Notice (Children’s Health Insurance Program)
