Quarantine Scenarios

The quarantine rules have been modified by the CDC. Please review the following updated information.

WHAT IS A “CLOSE CONTACT”? ANYONE EXPOSED TO A PERSON INFECTED WITH COVID-19 DURING THE TIME THEY WERE INFECTIOUS:

  1. An individual who was within six feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of fifteen minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from two days before illness onset. When to Quarantine
  2. An individual who had unprotected contact with the infected person’s body fluids and/or secretions, for example, being coughed or sneezed on, sharing drinks or utensils.

I was in class, properly wearing my mask and it was determined I was a “close contact” but the positive student was properly wearing his/her mask, will I have to quarantine?
Yes, for ten days with the exception of school. You will be allowed to attend school per the guidance of the St. Joseph Health Department. You will not be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities or sports. You will receive a letter from the Health Department via the school nurse explaining the quarantine procedure you will follow. Continue to monitor for symptoms for 14 days.

I was in class and had my mask under my nose, although I received numerous reminders from my friends and teacher, I continued to pull my mask down. I have been determined I’m a “close contact” of positive student who was properly wearing his/her mask, will I have to quarantine?
Yes, for ten days at home. You will have to quarantine at home because you were not properly wearing your mask at school. You will receive a letter from the Health Department via the school nurse explaining the quarantine procedure you will follow. If asymptomatic, you may return to school on day eleven, but continue to monitor for symptoms. 

I was at lunch sitting with my assigned group of students and due to eating none of us was wearing our masks, I am now considered a “close contact” of someone at the table, will I have to quarantine? 
Yes, for ten days at home. You will have to quarantine at home because due to eating none of you were able to wear masks. You will receive a letter from the Health Department via the school nurse explaining the quarantine procedure you will follow. If asymptomatic, you may return to school on day eleven, but continue to monitor for symptoms.

I was exposed to a positive individual who was coughing and sneezing during reading time and he/she was not properly wearing a mask. He/she thought it was allergies. I had my mask on over my mouth and nose, but we were sitting in a close circle, am I a close contact? We were in the circle for twenty minutes. Will I have to quarantine?
Yes, you are a close contact and unfortunately you will have to quarantine for ten days at home. The sick individual may have coughed or sneezed on you and since he/she was not properly wearing the mask you will need to stay home and monitor for symptoms. If asymptomatic, you may return to school on day eleven, but continue to monitor for symptoms.

I was exposed to a positive individual while at my sister’s wedding, I have been determined to be a “close contact”, will I have to quarantine?
Yes, for ten days at home. You will have to quarantine at home due to this contact being a community contact. If asymptomatic, you may return to school on day eleven, but continue to monitor for symptoms.
