The Scott & Tara Wells Family recently selected the 2023 recipients of the Ruby Kate Wells Memorial Field Trip Grant. This grant was established in 2006 with the intent to provide field trip opportunities to St. Joseph School District title students. Four teachers submitted grant applications and all four were awarded a combined about of $3800. The following educators were selected: Megan Cobb, Lindbergh; Kim Dilley, Edison, Tara Thompson, Carden Park and Connor Kirschner of Carden Park. Cobb has taught for eighteen years and will be taking ninety first grade students to the Kansas City Zoo. Kim Dilley has taught thirty-one years and will be taking forty-one second grade students to Science City. Tara Thompson has taught two years and will be taking one hundred third graders to Shatto Milk Farms. Connor Kirschner has taught two years and will take seventy-two fifth graders to Science City. Cobb says, “As a teacher at a Title 1 school, I am constantly looking for ways to give my students opportunities to experience new things. Many title students have limited schema that can impact their ability to learn.”
Dilley says, “I am a true believer in each student at Edison. I fight to give them every opportunity to succeed and push them to always want to do better. I will continue to fight to have our students’ names heard out in the community as leaders.”
Tara Thompson says, “Most of our students have never had the experience to be on a real farm and interact with farm animals such as cows. I think our students will thoroughly enjoy having a chance to learn about animal science in a real-life scenario.”
Connor Kirschner says, “I love working at Carden Park with title students. I love getting to give the students positive experiences that will be lifelong memories. I will continue trying to give the students positive experiences and opportunities that grow their education and get them excited about learning every day.”
