Inclement Weather Graphic

As the winter season approaches, the chances of winter weather interrupting our school day increases.  We want to provide SJSD families with an update as to how things will look in the event we must cancel face-to-face classes due to inclement weather.

We will continue our remote learning model for all grade levels in the event we must close schools due to inclement weather.  Please also know that by implementing this model, these days will not need to be made up within the existing academic calendar, keeping the last day of school in the St. Joseph School District, May 27, 2021.

Below, you will find additional important information in the event face-to-face classes are canceled.

Virtual Learning: Students will remain on their regular virtual learning schedules.

Remote Learning: On inclement weather days, the elementary schedule will be the same as the Wednesday Hybrid schedule that students have been following during first semester.  Secondary students will follow the remote learning schedule for that day of the week that has been in place since the SJSD moved to the hybrid learning schedule.

Students should log into Canvas where they will find updates and information from their teachers regarding the day’s instruction and assignments.  Please be sure your student or students log into their Canvas sites to complete the day’s assignments.

Activities: In the event school is canceled, all activities/games will also be canceled.

Communication: Decisions about school closings are made by the administration and communicated to parents via several sources, which include School Messenger, District Facebook and Twitter pages, SJSD District website, local television stations, SJSD Channel 13 (Suddenlink Cable), and our mobile app.

Early Dismissals/Late Starts:  While not preferred, there is a chance we may need to either dismiss school early or start the school day late due to inclement weather conditions.  If this decision were to be made, we would communicate with families as early as possible in order to provide appropriate planning time. Parents/guardians should instruct their children as what to do, whom to contact and where to go should school be dismissed early.

Thank you for your continued partnership, as we remain committed to placing the safety of our students and staff as our top priority.
