(Oct. 27, 2020) The district’s 2020-21 and 2021-22 budgets were topics of discussion by the St. Joseph Board of Education at its October 26th meeting. In a 7-0 vote, the Board approved the Citizen’s Guide, which includes updated tax rate and assessed valuation information and the district’s Budget Message which is required by the state of Missouri. The combination of a drop in enrollment by 217 students this school year and the cost of repairs at Central High School in September that were not covered by insurance will have an impact on next year’s budget. At the October meeting, the district’s Assistant Superintendent of Business & Operations, Dr. Gabe Edgar, announced a budget reduction of $2.3 million for the 2021-22 school year. The administration will continue to assess the district’s financial picture while meeting the needs of all students and preparing them for success.
