The St. Joseph School District will welcome a new director of communications to serve as a liaison between the SJSD and our school families next year, while continuing to inform the public on district matters.

Eileen Houston-Stewart, a former St. Joseph resident, will return to our community to join the SJSD team in July.

Houston-Stewart started her career in St. Joseph in broadcast journalism. She also served the community as the director of communications for the United Way of Greater St. Joseph. Her career in school communications includes roles at DeKalb County School District, Kansas City Public Schools, Liberty Public Schools, Fort Worth Independent School District, and Cincinnati Public Schools. Her latest role is president/owner of HoustonStewart Consulting in Liberty.

Houston-Stewart has a bachelor's degree in communication/public relations from William Jewell College in Liberty. She is an Emeritus Trustee of William Jewell College, a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and the Missouri School Public Relations Association (MOSPRA).

The Board of Education approved the appointment during an executive session at the May 26 meeting.
