Careers

#WEareSJSD is more than a hashtag. It's a collective commitment and a reminder of the standard of excellence our students and staff pursue daily. Below are a few more reasons why the St. Joseph School District is such a great place to teach and learn.

Comprehensive Academic Training
Students in the SJSD have access to a rigorous elementary program which is supplemented with adaptive technological resources. At the secondary level, students have access to a wide variety of specialized coursework. Some of the unique pathways include career and technical education, performing and visual arts, agricultural science, biomedical studies, engineering, the High School of Business, and the International Baccalaureate program. Students also have access to numerous advanced placement and dual credit courses.

Fine Arts
Students enrolled in our Art classes K-12, have the opportunity to design and create in all aspects of Art from drawing and painting to 3D and ceramics. Our Drama departments annually get nominated (and often times win) Blue Star Awards with the Starlight Theatre (these awards resemble the Oscars for high schools across our area) and the SJSD has been recognized as only 1 of 3 in the state of Missouri as being one of the best communities in the nation for Music Education.

Hillyard Technical Center
With more than 18 adult and high school programs available, Hillyard Technical Center provides training for careers in high-skill, high-demand areas. In February 2017, the Advanced Science Research Center opened at HTC to support the exploration of careers in life science and STEM professions. HTC has stayed on the cutting edge of technological advances in career training, preparing and certifying high school and adult students to successfully enter the skilled workforce.
