The St. Joseph Adult Education & Literacy (AEL) Program is located at the Keatley Center at 1202 S. 28th Street in St. Joseph. Phone: 816-671-4020.
This program provides services for adults 17 and older who need their high school equivalency (HSE), English language learners, skill enhancement, and/or a path to career and college readiness skills. The AEL program has been a part of the community since 1954 when Principal Ruth Huston began the program as a service to the community.
The AEL program serves Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton, DeKalb, Grundy, Harrison, and Mercer counties. In addition to the main location at Webster, there are several AEL satellite locations. It serves approximately 1100 students per year through HSE (High School Equivalency) or ELL (English Language Learners) courses. At the Webster location, the program has about 200 ELL students who speak 27 different languages and and/or dialects.
