Required Courses

Specific Changes

  • Personal Finance: The approval of the Agribusiness curriculum allows Agribusiness at Hillyard Technical Center to satisfy the personal finance requirement for students.
  • Physical Education: Requirements shift to the state recommendation of 1 unit from 1.5 units. Additionally, all physical education courses will be accessible to students in grades 9-12 to provide greater choice.
  • Science: Two years of agricultural science at Hillyard Technical Center will meet the requirement for the third science credit at the junior or senior year.
  • Social Studies: Requirements shift to the state recommendation of 3 units from 3.5 units. Geography and Classical Medieval History will continue to be offered as elective credits, but will no longer be requirements. Under the revised Missouri Learning Standards, geography is now embedded within the World History and American History curriculum.

These changes align district requirements with state recommendations and afford students greater flexibility under a 7-period schedule to pursue elective courses and specialized career pathways.
