2022-23 Leadership Appointments

APPROVED AT THE MAY 9, 2022 BOARD OF EDUCATION EXECUTIVE MEETING
Shannon Nolte Appointed Director of Student Services
Mr. Nolte joined the district in 2020 as the Director of Secondary Education. He began his career in the Cameron R-I School District teaching mathematics and coaching softball, football, baseball, basketball, and track. He served as superintendent for five years prior to coming to SJSD. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics – Secondary Education from Wichita State University, a master’s degree in K-12 Education Leadership and an Education Specialist degree in Superintendency from Northwest Missouri State University. Nolte has served on leadership committees at the local, regional, and state level including NWMASA Scholarship Committee chair and NW District Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals President and Secretary/Treasurer. Nolte replaces Dr. Sigrist who is moving into the role of assisstant superintendent of business and operations. 

Dr. Lara Gilpin Appointed Director of Secondary Education
Gilpin currently serves as the Benton High School principal. During her 23-year career with SJSD, she has served as an assistant principal at Truman and Robidoux, middle school principal at Spring Garden, and high school principal at Benton. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Education – Physical Education /Health, a master’s in secondary administration, an Education Specialist degree in Superintendency all from Northwest Missouri State University and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Baker University. In 2017 and 2019, Gilpin was selected Middle School Principal of the Year by the Northwest Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals. Gilpin replaces Shannon Nolte who has been appointed director of student services.

Lynn Davis Appointed Benton High School Principal
She has been an assistant principal for five years and a classroom teacher for 10 years prior. Davis has a bachelor’s degree from Missouri Western State University. She earned her master’s degree in Educational Leadership and her Education Specialist degree in K-12 Administration. Both advanced degrees are from Northwest Missouri State University. While at Benton, Davis served as Department Chair, a member of the Leadership Team and Curriculum Writing Team. She was chosen as Benton’s teacher of the year candidate, Apple Seed Grant recipient, and was voted Most Influential Teacher in 2014. Davis replaces Dr. Lara Gilpin who has been appointed director of secondary education. 

 

APPROVED AT THE APRIL 27, 2022 BOARD OF EDUCATION EXECUTIVE MEETING
Dr. Robert Sigrist Appointed Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations

Sigrist received his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He earned his M.S. in Secondary Administration from Northwest Missouri State University and his B.S. in Natural Science from Missouri Western State University. He currently serves at the director of Student Services. Sigrist will take over for Dr. Gabe Edgar who has been appointed Superintendent.

 

APPROVED AT THE APRIL 4, 2022 BOARD OF EDUCATION EXECUTIVE MEETING
Rebecca Evans Appointed Mark Twain Elementary Principal
Evans earned a bachelor’s in English and a master’s in teaching at the University of Saint Mary, an educational specialist degree in administration from Arkansas State University and is currently working on a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction. She currently serves as a curriculum advisor in the district. Evans replaces Mindi Richardson who resigned from the district.
 
Julie Coon Appointed Early Learning Center Asisstant Principal 
Coon comes to SJSD from Mid-Buchanan R-V school district where she has served as a special education teacher, pre-school, and Kindergarten teacher. She earned her bachelor’s in elementary education from Missouri Western State University, a master’s in education from Baker University and an educational specialist degree in special education from Arkansas State University. This is a new position for the 2022-23 school year. 

Nathan Sherwood Appointed Truman Middle School Assistant Principal
Sherwood has served as assistant principal, athletic director, and math teacher in USD #375 Circle in Benton, Kansas. Sherwood earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Kansas State University and a master’s in school leadership from Baker University. Sherwood replaces Jeffery Sullivan who accepted the assistant principal position at Central High School.

Mark Anderson Appointed Spring Garden Middle School Assistant Principal
Anderson earned a bachelor’s in physical education and a master’s in secondary educational leadership from Northwest Missouri State University and an educational specialist degree in principalship from Arkansas State University. He currently serves as the boys physical education teacher at Bode Middle School. Anderson replaces Megan Lowe who has been promoted to principal at Spring Garden.

Cynthia Faucett Appointed Carden Park Elementary Assistant Principal
Faucett received her bachelor’s in elementary education from Missouri Western State University and a masters in elementary education administration from William Woods University. She currently serves as a sixth-grade teacher at Eugene Field Elementary, will serve as the assistant principal. She replaces John Wachtel who has been promoted to principal at Carden Park. 

Jacob Kretzer Appointed Hosea Elementary Assistant Principal
Kretzer has served in the district as a behavior interventionist. Kretzer earned a bachelor’s in elementary education and a master’s in educational leadership from Northwest Missouri State University. Kretzer replaces Laura Coughlin who resigned from the district. 

Dr. Alex Tomes Appointed Benton High School Assistant Principal
Tomes, a biology instructor at Central High School, earned a bachelor’s in biology at Northwest Missouri State University, a master’s in environmental science from Minnesota State University and a Ph.D. in biology from Arizona State University. He currently is working on an educational specialist degree in K-12 educational leadership from Northwest Missouri State University. Tomes replaces Mark Korell who has been promoted to principal at Robidoux Middle School. 


APPROVED AT THE APRIL 4, 2022 BOARD OF EDUCATION EXECUTIVE MEETING
Dr. Gabe Edgar Appointed St. Joseph School District Superintendent
Edgar received his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, an Ed.S. in Administration, and his M.Ed. in Educational Administration from William Woods University. He received his B.S. in Business Education from Missouri State University. Prior to joining SJSD, Edgar served as Superintendent of Marceline R-V for 11 years and oversaw the passage of two successful bond issues during his tenure. He has also served as a secondary principal, business teacher and coach in the Marceline district. Since 2006, Edgar has been an adjunct professor for William Woods University, teaching graduate level courses. Dr. Gabe Edgar, currently the Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations for the St. Joseph School District, will take the reins of superintendent on July 1, 2022. Edgar will replace Dr. Doug Van Zyl who is moving to his home state of Minnesota to lead the Lakeville Area Schools.


APPROVED AT THE MARCH 14, 2022 BOARD OF EDUCATION EXECUTIVE MEETING

Mark Korell Appointed Robidoux Middle School Principal
Korell will replace Mark Weis who has been appointed principal at Savannah High School. Korell earned an associate degree in criminal justice and a bachelor’s degree in history at Missouri Western State University and a master’s degree in elementary and secondary administration from Northwest Missouri State University. He will earn an education specialist degree from Northwest Missouri State University in 2023. He currently serves as assistant principal at Benton High School. Korell will replace Mark Weis who has accepted a position as principal of Savannah High School.

Megan Lowe Appointed Spring Garden Middle School Principal
Lowe will replace Rebecca Shilling who has been selected as the lead principal at East Buchanan Middle School. Lowe received a degree in business administration from Missouri Western State University, and NCATE Certification/Business and educational leadership K-12 from Northwest Missouri State University. She currently serves as Spring Garden's assistant principal. Lowe will replace Dr. Rebecca Schilling who has accepted a position in another school district. 

Dr. Leah Richardson Appointed Webster Alternative School Principal
She replaces Jon Salanky who will transfer to Central High School as assistant principal. Dr. Richardson received a bachelor’s in elementary education with an emphasis in mathematics from Missouri Western State University. She obtained her master’s in educational leadership from William Woods University and her Ph.D. in educational leadership from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. She currently serves as Webster's assistant principal. She will replace Jon Salanky who has been appointed assistant principal at Central High School. 

Dr. Lacey Adams Appointed Bessie Ellison Elementary Principal
Dr. Adams has served as principal of Carden Park Elementary for the past eight years. She earned a bachelor’s in elementary education from Northwest Missouri State University, master’s in elementary leadership, an education specialist degree in superintendency and a doctorate in leadership from William Woods University. She replaces Dr. Kara Anderson who will serve as the assistant director of special services.

John Wachtel Appointed Carden Park Elementary Principal
Wachtel has served as assistant principal at Carden Park since 2017. Wachtel received a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Missouri Western State University and a master’s in administration from William Woods University. Wachtel replaces Dr. Lacey Adams who will serve as Bessie Ellison's principal. 

Jon Salanky Appointed Central High School Assistant Principal
Salanky received his bachelor’s in elementary education/special education K-12 from Missouri Western State University, master’s in education in administration and an education specialist degree in administration from William Woods University. He currently serves as principal at Webster Alternative School. 

Tanya Sharp Appointed Robidoux Middle School Assistant Principal
Sharp has been serving Robidoux MS as an administrative intern. Sharp earned her bachelor’s in education, a master’s in education: science education and an education specialist degree in secondary school principalship all from Northwest Missouri State University. 

Jason Simpson Appointed Webster Alternative School Assistant Prinicpal
Simpson has a bachelor’s in business administration from Central Missouri State University and a master’s in secondary educational leadership from Northwest Missouri State University. He currently serves as assistant principal at Central High School. He will replace Dr. Leah Richardson who will serve as principal at Webster.

Jeff Sullivan Appointed Central High School Assistant Principal

Sullivan received his bachelor’s in science education: K-12 physical education at Missouri State and his master’s in educational leadership: secondary level from Northwest Missouri State University. He currently serves as the assistant principal at Truman Middle School. Sullivan is replacing Kris Larson who is retiring at the end of the school year. 

Christine Prussman Appointed Lafayette High School Assistant Principal
Prussman has a specialist’s degree in Administration from Northwest Missouri State University, a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction (with an emphasis in TESOL) from the University of Missouri-Columbia, a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Communications from Graceland University, and a secondary teaching certificate from Missouri Western State University. She currently serves as an English teacher and department chair at Lafayette High School. Prussman will replace Bart Hardy who has been appointed principal at LHS. 

Dr. Kara Anderson has been named assistant director of Special Programs. Anderson currently serves as principal at Bessie Ellison Elementary. Anderson earned a Doctorate in Education and her Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from William Woods University. She received her master’s in Special Education and her bachelor’s in Elementary Education and Special Education from Northwest Missouri State University. Anderson is replacing Dlo Duvall who was recently appointed to director of Special Programs. 


APPROVED AT THE FEBRUARY 28, 2022 BOARD OF EDUCATION EXECUTIVE MEETING

Bart Hardy Appointed Lafayette High School Principal
Hardy received a bachelor’s in Secondary Education/Mathematics and a master’s in Educational Leadership from Northwest Missouri State University. He currently serves as assistant principal at Lafayette. He will replace Dr. Ashly McGinnis who was selected as Assistant Superintendent of Academics.

Heather Renk Appointed Central High School Principal
Renk has bachelor’s degrees in English Literature and Secondary Education from Wichita State University and Kansas State University, a master’s in School Counseling from Kansas State University and a master’s in School Leadership and Administration from Emporia State University. She is a doctoral candidate in School Leadership at Baker University. She currently serves as principal in the Lawrence Public School District. Renk will replace Dr. Terri Godfrey who is retiring. 

Amanda Ueligger Appointed Lindbergh Elementary Assistant Principal
Ueligger has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri State University and a master’s in Educational Leadership from Park University. She currently serves as a SJSD curriculum advisor. She replaces Eric White who will serve as Lindbergh principal. Dr. John Davison, current Lindbergh principal, has been appointed superintendent of the Stanberry R-2 School District. 

Dlo DuVall Appointed Director of Special Services
Duvall received her specialist degree in Administration from William Woods University, a master’s degree in Teaching: Instructional Technology from Northwest Missouri State University, and a bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Missouri Western State University. She currently serves as assistant director of Special Programs. Duvall replaces Dr. Michele Thomason, who has accepted a position with the Maysville R-1 School District. 

Stacia Studer Appointed Director of Curriculum
Studer has a bachelor’s in Middle School Education from Missouri Western State University, a master’s in Elementary Education, a specialist in Principalship, Elementary and Middle School Administration from Arkansas State University, and is a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership at William Woods University. She currently serves as a curriculum advisor. This is a new position for the 2022-23 school year. 

Tamara Smith-Hinchey Appointed Coordinator of Nursing/Health Services
Smith-Hinchey has an associate of arts in Nursing from Park University and a bachelor’s in Nursing from MidAmerica Nazarene University. She currently serves as Carden Park Elementary's school nurse. Ms. Smith-Hinchey replaces Maria Burnham, who is retiring. 

APPROVED AT THE JANUARY 18, 2022 BOARD OF EDUCATION EXECUTIVE MEETING
Ashly McGinnis Appointed Assistant Superintendent of Academics
Dr. Ashly McGinnis earned her bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Emporia State University.  She has a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Northwest Missouri State University and a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri. McGinnis has worked for St. Joseph School District since 2007.  She has served as the Principal of Lafayette High School since 2018. McGinnis will officially take over the position in July, replacing Dr. Marlie Williams who will retire at the end of the school year.

Eric White Appointed Lindbergh Elementary School Principal
Eric White received his ED.S. in K-8 Administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He received his M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction and B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. White has served as assistant principal at Lindbergh Elementary since 2018. White will replace Dr. John Davison who has accepted the superintendent position for Stanberry R-II. The Board of Education approved the appointment at an executive meeting on January 18, 2022.
