Bessie Ellison students and staff are making a connection and making a difference! We have decided to enter into a partnership for learning across continents. Imagine a program that knits empathy together with friendship and selflessness. A program that plants a seed for future endeavors and allows children to cross cultural lines and hold hands with a nation.
As your child embarks on his or her educational journey, no doubt you have many hopes for this stage of life. No matter the school you choose or the philosophy of education you embrace, one thing is certain…you know your child will be immersed in the world of literacy. Books and education go hand in hand. Your child’s education begins with learning to read and progresses as he uses this foundational skill to acquire knowledge and character throughout his educational career…and life.
As your child enjoys the freedom of literacy, children in Africa are learning in a much different environment. Books are scarce and stories are rare. Our mission is to bring books into the lives of these children and teachers. Bound pages of knowledge and love that will inspire hope and facilitate learning.
Through sharing and giving, your child will make a connection with someone in a different part of the world. You and your child will go through your old children’s books and pull out anything that is no longer used. Don’t worry about the wear…the more loved, the better the gift! Your gift of a book, along with a picture of your child, will be shared with a student in Africa. After the books are delivered, you will be given a picture of an African child, holding the very book you and your child gave so freely. A gift of literacy to a village in need.
We are excited to partner with you in this journey. To view more information you can visit
