What an exciting time to learn at Edison Elementary! This month we will hold our parent meetings for those students' receiving iPads.  The SJSD's “Project Connect: Advancing Learning through Technology” provides individual iPads for each fourth, fifth, and sixth grader at Edison.  In order for children to use this learning tool at home, parents must attend a parent/student orientation meeting.  We will hold one session on January 30 for sixth grade students and their parents. Then on January 31 fourth and fifth grade students and parents will have their session.  During this session, I will go over the policies, procedures, learning expectations, and safety tips.  In addition, parents will have the opportunity to look at what exactly the children will receive on February 7.  We are also looking at offering opportunities for parents to learn a little more about how to use the iPad and how we are using it at school with the children. If you are interested in such classes, be looking for information in the monthly newsletter or here on this site.  

 

 We want to encourage parents to make sure that students have the proper clothing to protect them from the cold weather. This year we have had unusual weather. With its unpredictable nature, it is more important than ever that the children have warm clothing. Pleases make sure that you label your child's clothing as well. If you are missing clothing items, we do have an overflowing Lost and Found box that you may want to check. Finally, a parent recently called to inform me about a concern.  Parents are dropping off children in such a way that the child or children have to cross in front of the car.  When you stop in an undesignated area for parking you run the risk of being rear-ended which would cause you to run over your own child. Please make sure that you are parking or stopping to drop or pick up your child in a safe manner.

 

We are working hard to identify all children in the Edison attendance area that will turn 4 by July 31, 2012.  These children are eligible for a FREE screening to determine if they are eligible for FREE half-day preschool in the fall.  Parents as Teachers are currently scheduling these screenings now.  To encourage families to get signed up, we are also holding a Parent and Child Together (PACT) activity on February 7, 2012 at 5:30 pm.  Please come if you have a child that will turn 4 by July 31, 2012, please plan on attending this event.  Or, if you know a child in your neighborhood that meets the criteria, encourage them to attend.  We will have a few door prizes to give away.
