Good Day Everyone ~ I know I have had a few "Maxine" computer days.  Computers can be our best friends and sometimes our worst enemy.  Contact me and I'll do all I can to assist when your computer is having a bad day.

My first communication I would like to share is the most important:

Excluding Photos, Movies, and Music (as these are quite large files), save a copy of your important documents, curriculum, etc to your Named Folder (User Folder) located in the dock bar, at the lower right of your laptop.  Anything you place in this folder is actually saved on a server at TMC.  You can only access this folder when you are on our Network.  Should something happen to your laptop, the items you placed in this folder will be safe.  If you choose not to use this folder, please make a back up of your important documents on an external drive.  It is always a good idea to have a back up of those items that are most valuable to you.

Here are a few tips to maintaining a healthy and happy laptop:

  • Try not to move your laptop around while you have it on and open.  If you need to move your laptop, it is best to close the lid, locking all those moving components into place.  This will protect your hard drive.
  • Make sure your laptop is placed on a solid, well vented surface, while in use. This allows proper venting/cooling.  Do not place on a pillow, cushion, etc.
  • Keep liquids away from laptop.  Should a spill occur, shut down immediately, do not turn on, and contact your building tech or the help desk.
  • Condensation can build up in laptops and damage them. Do not leave your laptop in your car especially on cold or hot days.
  • Charge your laptop to 100% then unplug and allow to drain to at least 15% before recharging.  If you do not allow your battery to drain before recharging, you will shorten the battery usage.
  • Please shut your laptop down at least once or twice a week.
